Here’re my preparations for a 7 days rogue-like challenge: a basic vault tileset. The walls are all done, and I can create any kind of room with the tileset. Next up would be the furniture tileset, as well as a few more ground tiles to spice things up a little.

I still suck at character art and animation though. Maybe I can outsource them? :P

Premise

InfestedRL is a survival horror rogue-like game where the player have to escape from his infested shipmates in a space ship. The goal is to reach the escape pod, and the player won’t get to kill shit at all. Yes, this is perhaps the first pacifist rogue-like ever made. Instead of guns and crowbars, the player gets a wide variety of tools which he can then put to use to improve his survival chances, like prying open malfunctioned doors; barricading walkways; deploy decoy buzzers; etc.

Interested? Well, I need help with character sprites. Anybody up to the task? :P

Infested Enemies

There are 4 kinds of infested enemies in the game, each with its own characteristics and weaknesses:

Moaners

Moaners are those who enjoy whining about their lives when they were alive before the infestation. They are blind and are attracted to sound, and cannot break barricades.

Chompers

Chompers are infested humans who enjoy eating a lot. They are fat and move slowly, but when they catch the scent of the player they will home in towards the player with surprising speed.

Brutes

Brutes are bullies when they were still alive, and the virus made them stronger and crazier. They have lousy hearing and smell, relying on their eyes to seek prey.

Shades

Shades are anti-social crew members who when they were alive preferred to hide in their bunks toying with their gadgets all day long. Now that they are infested, they prefer to hide in lockers, closets and chests instead, waiting to pounce on anybody who are unfortunate enough to open it up.
